Well. It's the end of an era. I'm leaving London in a couple of weeks, and moving to Scotland to study a Masters at St Andrews University. Its been 4 years now. 3 at university, and 1 working. From the classrooms of Westminster University, to the corridors of the Houses of Parliament, to my first paid job in Charity Consultancy Firm, and to the City of London working for a Scottish government economic development agency. It's been a long journey, from being an unpaid intern working for an MP, to a sweet job where I could travel frequently to Scotland, tour the Nordics and attend meetings at British Embassies, and gain valuable worldly experience. Why choose to abandon all this? Well, I was fortunate to have found funding for my Masters in Peace and Conflict Studies. The full whammy, including costs to go on a field trip to Kosovo, and engage in field research for a couple of weeks. It was an opportunity that I couldn't let go. Also, it meant that I could realign myself to my original intention of pursuing a career in International Relations. After all, I did study the subject at University.
I'm moving to Scotland with my better half, Haluko, and we have put down a deposit on a house in a beautiful village on the coast, a couple of miles from St Andrews. It's going to be the most drastic of changes. I'm going to have to get used to a commute along a spectacular coast line, with golf courses and the North Sea for passing scenery instead of the grey buildings of London, and a bus timetable with buses leaving only every hour or more on weekends. Or maybe I could buy a bycicle. Then there is the golf .. the Department of International Relations is literally only a 100 metres or so from the Old Course at St Andrews. It almost sounds too good to be true. The only fear I have, is money, and not having a full time job, with a steady income. So it's goodbye to the savings ...
In any case, I will have more time to update this blog, so please, watch this space.
